The Wallnerstraße
3 building, the registered head office of Donau-Finanz can look
back at a very eventful and fascinating though not commonly well
known past.
The Austrian Emperor, Franz Stephan von Lothringen, spouse of
Empress Maria Theresia, owned this palace called "Kaiserhaus"
("imperial house") between 1740 and 1765.
He used the palace as his private residence and the official
reception estate for visitors to the "Holy Roman Empire" whereas
the nearby Hofburg was reserved for the administration of the
crown-lands of Maria Theresia.
The palace was probably erected by the baroque master builder, J.
E. Fischer von Erlach in the first half of the 18th Century.
The ground floor encompasses vaults of a building erected in the
15th Century.
